We give appreciation gifts for many reasons. You may have given one this week to honor the Administrative Professional in your office (today is the end of Administrative Professionals Week!). You may have given an appreciation gift to a coworker for an outstanding accomplishment, or rewarded an employee for going above and beyond.

Giving a gift of appreciation is a memorable way to recognize an individual’s effort and accomplishment. Download our Non-Cash Recognition White Paper from the Recognition Resource Center to learn why giving a gift is an effective form of recognition (hint, it improves performance!).

In this month’s webisode, I share the three keys to a great appreciation gift: immediate, personal, and sincere. The video is only ten minutes, so you can gain the knowledge and quickly get back to your day! Watch it below. If you prefer to read the information in this webisode, you can do that, too! The transcript from the video is available in our Recognition Resource Center. Read about appreciation gifts here.

Watch the 10 minute informational video!

It’s a no brainer that teachers love books. For Teacher Appreciation Week this year, purchase a few new books for the classroom and add one of these inspirational gift books for the teacher, just because.

5. My Favorite Teachers
Teacher Appreciation Week is all about thanking a teacher who made a difference in your life. What teacher had the greatest impact on your life? I’m thankful to have had great teachers throughout my educational career, so I’d like to send shout outs to Mrs. Coleman, Mr. Kampfschulte, Dr. Forbes, and Doc Nichols for all their support and encouragement!

Ten Ways to Give a High Five on National High Five Day

by Cori

Cori

Yes, National High Five Day is a real holiday. No, Baudville did not create it. But we love the idea of dedicating an entire day to the celebration of a simple (and free!) act of appreciation.
How many high fives can you give today?

Be careful when you give a high five! You don't want to be featured in this high five fail video!

In honor of National High Five Day today, we've created a list of ten ways to give a high five. The great thing about these tips is you can do them any day, not just today! We've put a brief recap below, or you can see them all on our National High Five Day page.

1. The Original High Five. Freely give high fives to coworkers, classmates, and strangers to say thanks or great job. How many high fives will you give today?

2. Give ‘Em a Hand Pens. These fun pens say high five on them!

3. Lapel Pins. Give a high five lapel pin, and increase the longevity of your high five!

4. Squeezable Praise. This stress is gives a thumbs up to your recipient.

5. Free ePraise. Send a free ePraise card to your recipients for a virtual high five.

6. Tokens of Appreciation. Make high fives a part of your regular schedule with a high five Token of Appreciation recognition program. Employees can save and redeem their “high fives” for gifts and rewards.

7. Mini Note Cards. Give a high five when you deliver one of these mini note cards with your personal note.

8. Milestones. The high five milestone is perfect for student recognition or a day-to-day recognition program. Give your recipient both the milestone and a high five.

9. Pop Up Praise. These pop up notes are a great way to say give a tangible high five to your team. Pick a note, sign your name, and deliver.

10. Foam Finger. Give a high five using this foam finger, and your team won’t soon forget it!

Happy National High Five Day!

Collaboration with Creative Mom Leads to New Healthcare Appreciation Gifts Product Line

We recently partnered with Jessica Muraco, a creative Michigan mom, to create a new product line of healthcare appreciation gifts. Here, Jessica shares the story of developing Steth-o-Charms in her own words!

Thinking, thinking, thinking. My mind never rests. Fortunately, one sleepless night in 2009 gave rise to the product I invented. Steth-o-Charms now grace the cover and multiple pages in Baudville’s new spring 2012 catalog. I am excited to announce that in less than twenty eight months, I have designed, patented, self-manufactured, and marketed my idea. Here’s my story. I hope it inspires you to put your thoughts and ideas into motion instead of just dreaming about them!

Shop Steth-o-CharmsI left the workforce back in 2009 to be home with my son, Anderson. Leaving the healthcare industry left me feeling a little sad but obviously there was no question; home with Anderson was where I wanted to be. We were getting use to one income, but somehow I still felt guilty about not contributing to our financial needs. After a poor night’s sleep, I began reminiscing about my past life as a dedicated student and my love for medicine.

Then my thoughts started snowballing one after another, and it came to me. I should use the gifts I have been given. How could I combine creativity, medicine, and still be able to be a stay-at-home-mom? In the blink of an eye, the idea of stethoscope charms came to mind, and I ran with it.

I immediately started sketching designs, pulling out my stethoscope, and wrapping different materials on it. The excitement was intense because I truly believed this was a great idea.  For days I designed different attachments, added decorative pieces, stocked up on jewelry accessories, and tried different adhesives. I pitched my idea to my husband and family with a preliminary prototype. They all gave me great reviews!

Over a period of two and a half years, I patented my project, gathered data, opened a website, and bought a Magic Jack phone for sales. I filled orders by self-manufacturing them in my garage and kitchen, just as I had set to do. I also had fun cold calling local hospitals, gift stores, medical offices, even a guest on the Ellen DeGeneres show. The feedback I received was always positive and encouraged me to keep going!

Shop Steth-o-CharmsHowever, I needed consistent inventory, and the local craft stores would often run out of the accessories I need to create Steth-o-Charms. It was becoming a hassle to get orders completed in a timely manner. I went back to the drawing board and came up with the idea to use lapel pins!

Upon doing research for healthcare lapel pins, I found Baudville. I was amazed at all the healthcare lapel pins they offered! That very moment I called Baudville to see if I could buy some of their lapel pins to make my own product. I was astounded when I was put through to the Vice President, Kristy Sherlund.  We hit it off right away and by the end of our conversation scheduled a meeting to review my product in person.

Needless to say, our meeting went beyond well! Baudville offered to partner with me and bring Steth-o-Charms to market in less than six months for the 2012 spring catalog launch and in time for National Nurses Week. Mission accomplished!

I am proud to be a part of the Baudville Family! Hats off to the entire Baudville team! Thank you for all of your dedication and believing in my creation. I am thrilled to see my idea brought to life nationwide! I’m feeling right where I want to be in life- now onto the next idea!
