And the MOward goes to...

FalonOver the past month you’ve been reading about all of our MOvember events, employee spotlights, and our dedication to raising awareness for men’s health issues. Well, MOvember has officially come to a close and I don’t think any of our moustachioed participants are still sporting their ‘staches… what’s the deal, guys? Had enough of the ‘stache?

While the facial follicles may have disappeared, our dedication to the cause is apparent! Together our team raised over $500 to support a local not-for-profit Prostate Cancer Advocacy Organization, PAACT. Way to go, team!

Have you been following our MOvember challenge? We’re almost to the end! Catch the ‘staches while you can, I fear (or do I?) they will soon disappear. Curious to learn more? You can read all about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it here.

Throughout MOvember we’ve been spotlighting Mo Bros and Mo Sistas from Baudville who are taking part in this important initiative. This week’s participants are Rob and Marilyn, from our always-on-top-of-it Distribution Center team, who answered a few questions about why they’re inspired to be a part of the fun.

Today’s featured Mo Bro is Rob, one of our newest Baudville team members working as our Distribution Center Supervisor since October!

What inspired you to get involved with this cause?
Both of my parents passed away from cancer. Given that fact, I am always game for raising awareness and funds to help support a cancer-cure-finding cause!

Which kind of mustache do you plan to grow during MOvember?
Much to my wife’s disliking, I am going with the retro 1970s ‘stache. So far so good. Maybe I’ll even extend MOvember a few extra days! ;)

What challenges and rewards have you faced so far during MOvember?

My biggest challenge, along with all of my other Mo Bros, has been the feedback from my wife; she cannot wait until this “thing” comes off. The time-savings on shaving, though, has been a little bit of a reward.

Up next, supporting the cause in memory of her father and father-in-law, is Mo Sista Marilyn, Legendary Queen of Order Picking and Baudvillian since 1996!

What inspired you to get involved with this cause?
I myself am a cancer survivor. I feel that every type of cancer not only changes the life of the person infected with the disease, but also the lives of those that are connected in some way – husbands, wives, sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, friends, neighbors, sons, daughters, the list could literally go on and on… It is so important to me that cancer cure research continues; that is why I got involved in MOvember.

Who are some of your favorite mustachioed men?
Of course I love a good mustache as much as the next woman, but I would have to say my favorite mustached man would have to be my father.

Which Mo Bro are you sponsoring this month and how do you plan to support him?
I am not supporting any specific Mo Bro this month but instead have chosen to pledge my contribution in memory of my father and father-in-law – two amazing men that touched my life. It is my hope that in raising awareness for men’s health issues that more men will have more time to spend with their families making memories like I did with my father and father-in-law.

Thanks, Rob and Marilyn! It’s been great to see such commitment to the cause so far. Check out last week’s MOvember Challenge Spotlights here, and stay tuned everyone for our MOvember wrap-up coming soon!

Have you been following our MOvember challenge? We’re making good progress and we’re pleased to say MOst of the Baudville Mo Bros are gaining MOmentum with their furry facial hair – some of them actual look pretty good! Curious to learn more? You can read all about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it here.

During MOvember, we’re spotlighting Mo Bros and Mo Sistas from Baudville who are taking part in this important initiative. This week’s participants are Dave and Jenny, from our IDville and Operations teams, who answered a few questions about why they’re inspired to be a part of the fun.

Today’s featured Mo Bro is Dave, IDville Product Manager and resident IT Guru, a team member since 2005.

What inspired you to get involved with this cause?
It’s a great opportunity to bring attention to something that impacts so many people. I think that I'm a pretty typical guy in the fact that I'm lousy about seeing a doctor unless I absolutely have to. The chance to create a visual reminder about the importance of men's health issues and raise some money for organizations who are involved in research and education was one I couldn't pass up.

Which kind of mustache do you plan to grow during MOvember?
I'm going with the full out scraggly beard. I'm not the most follicley-endowed and it's been about 15 years since I've had more than 2 day’s worth of stubble on my face. So, I thought it would be fun to see what kind of all over growth I can muster. Spoiler Alert: There are some bare spots!

What challenges have you faced so far during MOvember?

I received an initial reaction of, "You're doing what!?!" from my wife when I first mentioned it to her. However, after a few days she found that she rather likes the rugged look I'm sporting. Getting past the itchy stage of several days without giving in was a little tough. Sadly, I had to break the news to my three-year-old that Daddy's whiskers would never be as long as a tiger's. Seriously though, the overall reaction has been really positive.

Up next, supporting all of our Mo Bros, is Mo Sista Jenny, Accounting Extraordinaire and Baudvillian since 2002!

What inspired you to get involved with this cause?
Cancer. It’s a horrible dreaded disease which does not discriminate. I’m not sure I know anyone who hasn’t been affected by it through close family and friends or some even personally. That is why I would not pass up the opportunity to get involved in spreading the word about MOvember! I think its great that in recent years we have really got behind supporting causes for women’s health issues and now it’s time to get the word out on men’s health issues as well! Seriously, how fun is the mustache?! Also, I won’t lie; the casual days we received for supporting the cause are a really nice added bonus.

Who are some of your favorite mustachioed men?
I really think I have to go with Tom Selleck…he set the bar pretty high as far as mustaches go! Also, my dad, who sported a mustache for much of my childhood. Lastly my hubby, who for at least a week every November (hunting season in Michigan), sheds his clean shaven face for a scruffier version of himself… much to the disapproval of his wife.

Which Mo Bro are you sponsoring this month and how do you plan to support him?
I have chosen to sponsor all of the BV Mo Bro’s! I am trying to support them by offering general encouragement on how great their growing facial hair is looking. I really think it’s great that so many guys have chosen to participate! It’s really quite easy for us Mo Sistas to donate some cash and cheer everyone on, but to actually make the commitment to grow a ‘stache for a month…well that is pretty darn cool! WAY TO GO BROS!!

Thanks, Dave and Jenny! It’s been great to see such commitment to the cause so far. Check out last week’s MOvember Challenge Spotlights here, and stay tuned everyone for MOre MOVember stories coming soon!

We’re two weeks into our MOvember challenge here at Baudville. The ‘staches are getting pretty funky and we’re having lots of fun with it! You can read all about what we’re doing here.

During MOvember, we’re spotlighting Mo Bros and Mo Sistas from Baudville who are taking part in this important initiative. This week’s participants are Justin and Amanda, from our Customer Service team, who answered a few questions about why they’re inspired to be a part of MOvember.

Today’s featured Mo Bro is Justin, IDville System Specialist and team member since 2010.

What inspired you to get involved with this cause?
I don’t think enough men pay attention to their health nowadays. This is a great way to raise awareness for prostate cancer and get all those stubborn guys out for a regular checkup with their doctor. If I can do it, anybody can!

Which kind of mustache do you plan to grow during MOvember?
I’m going with the combo of mustache with soul patch and chin (as seen in the photo above).  Not sure what you would call it, maybe the pirate look?  I personally couldn’t roll with just the ‘stache alone.

What challenges have you faced so far during MOvember?

The biggest challenge has been keeping the razor away from my wife!  She loves that I’m doing it for a good cause, but can’t stand the ‘stache.  This goes back to my style choice for MOvember. My children think it looks different, but cool.

Up next, supporting all of our Mo Bros, is Mo Sista Amanda, Customer Service Representative and Baudvillian since 2010.

What inspired you to get involved with this cause?
I was inspired to get involved because we are supporting a great cause!  Everyone knows about breast cancer awareness in October, the walks and charities and other ways to get involved (which we had a great turn out for last year with our awareness campaign and charity here at work), BUT we also have the men in our lives to think about!  This is a great way to donate money to a great cause and make men’s health more public knowledge.  I also cannot forget about the casual days!

Who are some of your favorite mustachioed men?
I don’t know if there is anyone famous with mustaches that I can claim as a favorite, but my dad has always sported a mustache (to cover a scar from boxing when he was younger) and he is definitely at the top!  He is currently in the hospital right now dealing with heart issues and even through the unknown he has an amazing sense of humor and a great outlook!

Which Mo Bro are you sponsoring this month and how do you plan to support him?
I am not sponsoring anyone in particular here at work, but more everyone that is daring enough to grow a ‘stache!  It is not just at work that they have to sport them and I know it's not easy for all guys to walk around with the "out of the norm" hair growth for a month.  I am excited to see the mustaches around the building cannot wait to see how it all unfolds!

Thanks Justin and Amanda! It’s so fun to see people company-wide participating in the cause to raise awareness for men’s health! Check out last week’s MOvember Challenge Spotlights here, and stay tuned everyone for MOre MOVember stories coming soon!

We're Making the MOst of MOvember!

Yesterday you heard from our CEO with a message about Baudville’s participation in MOvember: an activity that calls attention to men’s health issues in a fun way. You can read all about what we’re doing here.

During MOvember, we’ll be spotlighting Mo Bros and Mo Sistas from Baudville who are taking part in this important initiative. This week’s participants are CJ and April, who answered a few questions from me about why they’re inspired to be a part of it.

First up is CJ, Baudville’s Marketing Analyst and team member since 2009.

Photo of CJ

What inspired you to get involved with this cause?
My motivation for participating in MOvember is to change the face of men's health by raising awareness around and funds for the research of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and other men's health issues. I’ve had friends and family affected by both types of cancer and a multitude of other men’s health issues so I felt a real calling to step up and raise awareness.

Which kind of mustache do you plan to grow during MOvember?
I’m planning on a chevron for the following reasons:

  1. I feel my face can accommodate such a ‘stache.
  2. It’s easy to maintain.
  3. Burt Reynolds, Tom Selleck, and Mike Ditka. Enough said.

Now my mustache is starting off blonde so I’m color challenged, but it’s nothing a little Just For Men Mustache & Beard Brush-In Hair Color Gel Medium-Dark Brown can’t fix.

What rewards and challenges do you foresee as the month progresses?

The challenges that I see in the upcoming month are overwhelming. Mockery, remembering not to shave above my lip, disgust in the eyes of those that see me at the beginning of the month…

I could go on, but let’s focus on the rewards. The biggest one is helping men (and the women who love them) understand men’s health issues and spurring them on to take responsibility for their health. Another reward is becoming more of a man. At the end of the month I plan to be at least 73.1% more manly because of my mustache. I’ll probably start splitting wood on my lunch break.

Up next, supporting all of our Mo Bros, is Mo Sista April, Graphic Designer and Baudvillian since 2008.

What inspired you to get involved with this cause?
As a company, we supported the fight against breast cancer last year during Breast Cancer Awareness month. We had a huge turnout and everyone had a good time wearing pink and earning casual days for donating.

It only made sense to support MOvember this year during the month of November. I feel that this gets the guys a little more involved! Plus it's so fun to see them all grow a ‘stache!

Who are some of your favorite mustachioed men?
I'd have to say Tom Selleck is up there. Especially in his Magnum PI days! My dad was a huge fan in the 80's and often sported the cut-off jean shorts and Hawaiian shirt. I don't mean to brag, but my dad sure could rock the Tom Selleck ‘stache! Good memories!

We hear that you collect all things mustache-related. What are some of your favorite items?
I think we all can agree that mustaches are just plain fun or just funny! When my boys were toddlers they used to love it when I would draw mustaches on them with a marker! (Don't worry, I used a washable marker!)

Just recently, within the past couple years, the ‘stache has really come back in fashion—mostly as an icon and art style that many have picked up on in the retail industry.

It's funny how when you start to like something everyone relates that thing to you. I have awesome friends that pick up "mustache" themed products for me. Some of my faves are my pink mustache lanyard, my mustache necklace, and my mustache cookie cutters!!! It's all so much fun!!!

Thanks CJ and April! We love your enthusiasm for this cause! Stay tuned everyone for MOre MOVember stories coming soon!
